Professional Knowledge

Here I will demonstrate how I've been able to know my students, know my content and use strategies to cater to their learning needs.

Content
I have in-depth and a well-developed understanding of learning curriculum and guidelines as evidenced in:

  • Mastery of related subjects for ESL and Humanities at university by attaining a high-distinction average for my entire course.
  • Designing relevant unit plans that are linked to curriculum outcomes as stated in VELS, VCE and the IB curriculum.
  • Consulting professional documents like PoLT and E5.
  • Being aware of standards according to the different curriculum and adapting lessons to scaffold learning especially for an ESL class.

Students
My passion for teaching diverse individuals has grown as I have had much experience with students from culturally diverse backgrounds both overseas and locally. Below is a photo montage displaying some of these experiences including:

- Global Experience Program to New Delhi (for more info, go to 'teaching experiences')
- Community Development Exposure to the Philippines
- Co-leading an International Lifegroup in Clayton
- EPIC youth mentoring in highschools

As a result I am

  • able to understand and relate to students from various backgrounds
  • passionate about meeting their learning needs
  • open and inclusive towards different forms of learning

Strategies
Positive classroom management results from being well-organized and having effective teaching strategies in place. I have demonstrated this by:

  • Organizing my classroom to optimize student learning
  • Using co-operative learning strategies
  • Using IT to bring about engagement
